After Speaking with Mr. Zach Larkin, my fellow Democratic opponent, he has confirmed my suspicions that the "Anonymous" poster in my guestbook is in fact Mr. Jonathan Hawthorne, Mr. Larkins campaign manager. Mr. Hawthorne's intentions were to act as a constituent, act as a supporter, and belittle my own campaign. Mr. Hawthorne has lied to me as well as Mr. Larkin about the identity of "Anonymous". Below is a letter of apology from the Larkin Campaign, as well as the posts that were in the guestbook. The American people deserve better. The American people deserve a president who will be honest with them. Mr. Larkin and his campaign have stooped to the low level of politics. This should not be tolerated and it wont. The excuses that Mr. Hawthorne has presented are unacceptable as a reason for this behavior. Now, having said that, I still believe that Mr. Larkin is a wonderful person whose intentions for this country are good. He will be a formidable opponent who will be a force to be reckoned with in the future. But the American people will not tolerate this kind of politics, which is straight from the Karl Rove Political Playbook. I forgive the Larkin Campaign for this, but will not tolerate it in the future. -Ryan Abshagen
Senator Barack Obama has chosen Senator Joe Biden of Delaware to become his Vice Presidential running mate. He chose Sen. Biden because of his background in Foreign Policy and National Security, two of Obama's biggest weaknesses. I can't say I am happy with his choice, but I can't say I'm not satisfied either. It makes me a little uneasy to know that just last year Biden was taking aim at Obama and may have played the race card on him more than once. But I'm sure Sen. Obama has his reasons for choosing Se. Biden. Here is a some information on Sen. Biden courtesty of WikiPedia:
Biden was born in Scranton, Pennsylvania, the son of Joseph R. Biden, Sr. and Catherine Eugenia "Jean" Finnegan. The Biden family moved to Claymont, Delaware when Biden was 10 years old, and he grew up in suburban New Castle County, Delaware, where his father was a car salesman. In 1961, Biden graduated from Archmere Academy in Claymont, Delaware and, in 1965, from the University of Delaware in Newark, where he double majored in history and political science. He went on to receive his Juris Doctor (J.D.) from Syracuse University College of Law in 1968, and was admitted to the Delaware Bar in 1969.
In 1966, while in law school, Biden married Neilia Hunter. They had three children, Joseph R. "Beau" Biden III, Robert Hunter, and Naomi. His wife and infant daughter died in a car accident shortly after he was first elected to the U.S. Senate in 1972. His two young sons, Beau and Hunter, were seriously injured in the accident, but both eventually made full recoveries. Biden was sworn into office from their bedside. Persuaded not to resign in order to care for them, Biden began the practice of commuting an hour and a half each day on the train from his home in the Wilmington suburbs to Washington, DC, which he continues to do.
In 1977, Biden married Jill Tracy Jacobs. They have one daughter, Ashley, and are members of the Roman Catholic Church. In February 1988, Biden was hospitalized for two brain aneurysms which kept him from the Senate for seven months.
In 1969, Biden began practicing law in Wilmington, Delaware, and was soon elected to the New Castle County, County Council, where he served from 1970 to 1972.
The 1972 U.S. Senate election presented Biden with a unique opportunity. Popular Republican incumbent Senator J. Caleb Boggs was considering retirement, which would likely have left U.S. Representative Pete du Pont and Wilmington Mayor Harry G. Haskell, Jr. in a divisive primary fight. To avoid that, U.S. President Richard M. Nixon was invited to a meeting to convince Boggs to run again with full Republican support. Boggs ran, but Biden eventually won.
Biden took office on January 3, 1973, at age 30, becoming the fifth-youngest U.S. Senator in United States history. At age 30, Biden was at the minimum age to become a U.S. Senator. He has since won additional terms easily, defeating James H. Baxter, Jr. in 1978, John M. Burris in 1984, M. Jane Brady in 1990, and Raymond J. Clatworthy in 1996 and 2002, usually with about 60% of the vote. He is now the longest-serving U.S. Senator in Delaware history. He was running for re-election as senator in 2008.
In 1974 freshman Senator Biden was named one of the 200 Faces for the Future by TIME magazine.
Biden is a long-time member of the U.S. Senate Committee on the Judiciary. Biden is also a long-time member and current chairman of the U.S. Senate Committee on Foreign Relations.
According to CNN's latest delegate totals, Barack Obama has won the Democratic Nomination with 2,156 total delegates to Sen. Hillary Clinton's 1923 total delegates. Congratulation's to Sen. Barack Obama for his well deserved victory. Also, congratulations to Sen. Clinton for a hard fought race, even though you are not compassionate enough to bow out gracefully and help unite the party. The country has spoken, the superdelegates have spoken. It is time for America to unite not under red states and blue states, but purple states. It is time for America to stand behind the one candidate who promises us change, not a candidate who says he is about change, but then says he will continue 4 more years of Bush politics. The candidate for change is Barack Obama. He is the one who will bring us real change that this country needs the most right now. It is time for this great country to unite under a common ground, change. THIS is Americas time. THIS is our time. THIS is our time to show the rest of the world that we cannot stand 4 years of President Bush's evil twin. This country cannot afford to vote the pseudo-bush in office. We need CHANGE! I encourage you to view Sen. Obama's "Blueprint for Change in America". It is a 60 page document prepared by Barack Obama outlining his entire plan for the presidency.
